Update on recent auto collision in Puerto Rico, Saipan Print E-mail

On Monday, December 16, 2019, at about 7:55 p.m., the CNMI Department of Public Safety received a 911 call reporting an auto collision that occurred in Puerto Rico, Saipan. Police were dispatched to the scene.

Police arrived on scene and confirmed the report. At the scene police observed two (2) stationary vehicles with extensive damages. All occupants were transferred to the Commonwealth Healthcare Center (CHCC) for treatment.

Police made their way to CHCC and learned that the two (2) female occupants of the beige Toyota Highlander sustained minor injuries, received treatment and was released. However, the sole occupant of the other vehicle sustained life-threatening injuries where he was admitted to CHCC’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

On December 20, 2019, doctors notified police that the individual who was admitted to CHCC’s  ICU had passed. Dr. Tanuja Edvalson pronounced the victim dead at 11:50 p.m., on December 19, 2019 due to sudden cardiac arrest due to injuries sustained from the motor vehicle crash. 

This crash incident marks the CNMI’s 2nd traffic fatality fo the year 2019.

This case is under further investigation to determine if speed was a factor to the crash. No alcohol was involved in this crash.
